A Girls Night Out for All to Enjoy
So it’s official, I have turned into my mum. The amount I used to mock her for saying “the acoustics were dreadful” after she’d been to a stylish cocktail bar on a girls night out is uncountable. Then last Saturday, whilst debating with my friend on where to go for some alcoholic beverages, I uttered the words: “I don’t want to go anywhere that’s too loud”…
SHIT. And after this pivotal moment, I have begun embracing my inner mother. When I go out with my girls, I want to go somewhere where the music isn’t loud, the lighting is low, the nibbles are plentiful and there is quality alcohol right at my fingertips.
So, I have decided to write a list of places to go for a memorable girls night out that anyone (including my inner mother) can enjoy:
Cox and Baloney
Whilst at this delightful little tea room you can enjoy all your favourite finger sandwiches, scones and cakes with a glass of prosecco. Definitely worth checking out their cheese & gin tasters. They infuse all their gins in house with their speciality teas. Perfect for a boozy afternoon with some close girl friends or even family!
If you’re looking for a relaxed girly evening with some seriously good wine then this is the place for you. Their ever-changing, award-winning wine menu is any wino’s dream. You can also take part in their wine tastings and wine dinners, and trust me, the quality of their food certainly matches the quality of their wines!
Moorish little plates of padron peppers, squid ink arancini, jamon butter with crusty bread, cured meats and smoked salmon with beetroot relish make this restaurant and an ideal venue for you ladies desiring a more sophisticated soiree; ideal for a birthday meal or special celebration.
The Crofter’s Rights
For those who want a relaxed but fun night out. This pub has an unconventional selection of flavoured lagers, ales and ciders (the ginger chilli cider is a personal favourite). The bloat that these drinks can cause can all be danced off in the back room where you can dance to some old school disco around a MASSIVE disco ball. And if you get hungry, Ray’s Pizza is right next door.
Perfect for any occasion, whether it be the starting point for a hen party bar crawl, or a chilled out evening with some decent nibbles. When it’s warm enough, they have a lovely beer garden, and when out there I love to munch on their whole baked camembert, grilled courgette and baked figs; all washed down with a lovely bottle of Château Laulerie Sauvignon. Pure bliss!
This Bristol favourite is ideal for a fun, celebratory evening. They serve an endless array of delectable tapas dishes, including my favourites; aubergine with molasses, grilled sardines and crispy jamon croquetas. Don’t forget to order a tipple whilst you’re dining, their extensive wine list is a thing to be admired…. and drunk!
The Clifton Wine School
A great idea for a hen party with a bit of a twist! They are a local, independent wine education company, which mainly specialise in hosting wine tasting evenings in venues in Bristol or Bath. Food and wine matching, beer tastings, spirit tastings, sparkling wine tastings and Saturday courses with lunch are all available too, so you’re guaranteed to find a fun event which everyone can enjoy!
Her Majesty’s Secret Service
A fantastic cocktail bar for anyone looking for something a little different and a bit more personal. Would recommend for small groups of girls that want a good catch up with some amazing cocktails. The war time camaraderie feel to the bar makes for a relaxed, comforting and friendly atmosphere.
One of Bristol’s newer gin bars and is a good allrounder. Serving up a delightfully refreshing gin & tonic cocktail menu alongside some delicious modern Lebanese cuisine… my inner mother was fully realised in this place! Dutch is a great setting for a relaxing, but fun night with family and friends alike.
All you ladies can certainly get your daily fix of hummus here! You can order special set menus consisting of all Lebanese staples – such as vine leaves, falafel, baba ganoush and lamb Sambousil – we all crave. Easy dining for those girls night where you want somewhere to sit an chat with some delectable finger food.
Under the Stars
For ladies who are wanting a fun cocktail night, or a relaxed dining experience. The taste of their cocktails should take to you back to the 20’s – the “Rock the Cazcabel” certainly knocked me back! They also offer a classic tapas menu for those who want a nibbly night, and their pizza menu certainly has some crowd pleasers, including my personal favourite, anchovies and capers… So much salty goodness!
The Wild Beer Co
For anyone that needs a break from the wine and gin! Stocking beer from the infamous Wild Beer Co; their light, refreshing and flavoursome brews can be enjoyed with the beautiful harbourside as the backdrop. I would always go here for easy after-work drinks or an impromptu no fuss girls night out.
Hyde and Co
Probably my favourite cocktail bar. This hidden gem, with a secret doorbella entrance, vintage interior and retro cocktail menu written in a comic book format makes for a great venue for a fancy evening with a few close friends. Their cocktails are perfectly balanced and not too sickly sweet. The “Farewell to the Arms” and “Through the Looking Glass” are a must-try when you go.
The Milk Thistle
Another hidden cocktail bar located in one the finest historic buildings in the old city. A fine choice for a birthday party or even a hen do. Their elaborate cocktail menu constantly changes, but what will be on the menu are drinks of exceptional quality. To make your evening more special, you can book a cocktail masterclass, so you can have fun making your own drinks and also learn some tricks of the trade.
always feel feel a tad naughty when I step into this top secret venue. Ideal for a small group of friends. Here you can certainly drink down their addictive cocktails in a devilishly dark setting away from too many prying eyes. You can certainly gossip all you want down here, what happens in the Red Light stays in the Red Light!
